Urban Disobedience Toolkit

ABOUT

Urban Disobedience Toolkit explores the evolving dynamics of public space in big cities, showing how art can inspire people to reclaim and reshape their urban environments. Through artistic interventions and performative lectures, the film illustrates ways to “take back the city.” These elements are seamlessly interwoven under the direction of artist and filmmaker Vladimír Turner, who has spent nearly two decades dedicated to art in public space. The title, Urban Disobedience Toolkit, highlights the avant-garde potential of art — not as mere decoration, but as a radical intervention and a driving force against technocratic perceptions of the world.

The core of the project is a feature film. It will be followed by a travelling exhibition and a book.

The Battering Ram of Imagination: Urban Disobedience Toolkit

Vladimír Turner (ed.)

The Battering Ram of Imagination:Urban Disobedience Toolkit features an eclectic selection of visual material, interviews, manifestos, instructions, short stories, poetry, and historical reflections on the last decades of creative nonconformity by the new urban avant-garde. Its interdisciplinary character amplifies the cracks in the system and points to imaginative possibilities of resistance to apathy at times when the global ruling class of the ultra-wealthy is approaching hybrid forms of neo-fascism, against which we need to fight by all possible means.

The book was created as part of the Urban Disobedience Toolkit project (https://publicservice.art), which also includes a feature-length documentary film, community workshops, gallery installations, and other gatherings.
